Squamish Nation Chairperson Wilson Williams Tours Woodfibre LNG

On June 5, 2026, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) Council Chairperson Sxwíxwtn Wilson Williams made a visit to the Woodfibre LNG construction site, located on the former Squamish Nation village site of swiy̓át, marking another important milestone in the relationship between Squamish Nation and the project.

Hosted by Woodfibre LNG CEO Luke Schauerte and Vice President, Corporate Affairs Selena Basi, the group toured the site and received an update on the progress being made across the project.

During the visit, Chairperson Williams and the delegation learned that Woodfibre LNG is now more than 65 per cent complete and remains on track for completion in late 2027. The tour highlighted the safe delivery of all 16 major modules to site, ongoing work to complete the project’s final marine infrastructure and pilings, and the scale of activity currently underway throughout the facility.

The delegation also heard about the people helping to build the project. More than 1,300 workers are currently employed on site, including 75 Indigenous workers, making Woodfibre LNG one of the largest construction projects in British Columbia. Looking ahead, the project team is preparing for operations and developing a hiring strategy for approximately 100 long-term jobs, with a priority on local and Indigenous hiring.

Throughout the tour, Chairperson Williams and the Squamish Nation representatives had the opportunity to ask questions, meet members of the project team, and see firsthand the progress that has been achieved over the past year.

Visits like these provide valuable opportunities to share information, exchange perspectives, and strengthen understanding as the project continues to move forward.
