Woodfibre LNG Helps Squamish Minor Hockey Association Skate Through Rink Repair: Donates $20,000 To Cover Travel Expenses
Sep 26, 2025
With the Brennan Park rink closed in recent weeks, Squamish’s young hockey players have been travelling to other communities to keep practicing, adding unexpected costs for the Squamish Minor Hockey Association. Now that the rink has reopened, Woodfibre LNG has stepped forward to offset those expenses with a $20,000 sponsorship, ensuring local players will continue to get every minute of practice and game time without added expense.
The funding will reimburse expenses incurred by the Association for transporting players to practices in neighbouring towns and cities, and for securing temporary ice time. It will also provide financial support for teams moving forward, through a sponsorship for the duration of the 2025/26 season.
“Youth sports build skills, confidence and community connections that last a lifetime. The rink closure created unexpected costs and we felt it was important to step in to help ensure kids could keep playing without added burden on the Association and players’ families,” said Selena Basi, Vice President Corporate Relations, Woodfibre LNG, “Part of being a good neighbour is stepping up to help when it counts. We’re happy to help keep hockey strong in Squamish and the Sea to Sky region.”
Woodfibre LNG has been a frequent supporter of Squamish Minor Hockey through its Community Partnership Program that provides funding for non-profit organizations in Squamish and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District twice a year. The program is open for submissions and applicants can learn more at Woodfibrelng.ca/cpp.
“We are so grateful for Woodfibre LNG’s generosity and support. When the rink closed, families were driving long distances and paying unexpected costs just to keep their kids on the ice. This sponsorship eases that burden and helps us focus on what truly matters, giving our players the chance to learn, grow, and enjoy the game in their own community. Having partners who step up in times like these means so much to our families and volunteers, and we cannot thank them enough,” commented Leah Hodges, President of Squamish Minor Hockey Association.

Woodfibre LNG is committed to supporting the people of Squamish and the Sea to Sky region through standalone initiatives, such as funding for the CT scanner due for installation in 2026, annual support for important local organizations like Pearlspace and the Squamish Hospital Foundation, and the Community Partnership Program grant program, providing regular support for local non-profits. Woodfibre LNG will continue to do its part as a good neighbour to support important community organizations and events and maintain the Sea to Sky region as one of the best places in the world to work, live and play.
