What People Are Saying

“As an active volunteer in my own community, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find funding for community programs and events,” said Byng Giraud, Vice President, Corporate Affairs.  “At Woodfibre LNG, we are proud to work for a company that is playing an active role in supporting organizations that are working in areas of education, youth sport and environmental initiatives.”

“Club fees are currently very affordable so funds from Woodfibre LNG will be used to ensure racers won’t face member fee increases in 2016,” said Vicki Schenk with Squamish BMX Racing. “The track is being redesigned to make the BMX area safer for riders so a portion of the funds will be used in the effort to redesign the track.”

“The Robotics class at Howe Sound Secondary School educates students on aspects of engineering and robotics,” said teacher Jamie Leslie. “This funding will be used to purchase supplies needed for the construction of robots to be entered in a Skills Canada competition.”

“Squamish Scouts will purchase four lightly used canoes along with canoe accessories so the Scouts can go on expeditions like the adventure planned for next summer on the Bowron Lakes,” said Jeremy Stubley of the 4th Squamish Scouts. “Two small kayaks will also be purchased using these sponsorship funds.”

“We are initiating a youth league to complement our existing Kids Rock program,” said Rob Kirkham, Vice President of the Howe Sound Curling Club. “This opportunity provides school aged children both physical activity during the winter and the benefit of team building.”

“We have high ice costs and 24 skaters at the competitive level,” said Crystal Tress with the Squamish Skating Club. “These funds will be used to cover ice costs and to help send skaters to competitions.”

“The Nature Trust of British Columbia has a six hectare conservation property at the Squamish River Estuary and these funds will be used to support a Conservation Youth Crew to do much-needed on-the-ground management work on the property,” said Carl MacNaughton, Conservation Land Manager with The Nature Trust. “The project will help provide conservation education for young people, while also giving them valuable work experience. The crew will remove rubbish and invasive plants, repair signs, monitor habitat and conduct safety inspections.”
