Woodfibre LNG is supporting Ocean Wise’s kelp restoration initiative, or “Seaforestation,” to revive critical underwater habitats of Átl’ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound.

Outlining progress toward delivering the world’s first net zero LNG export facility, the update highlights progress in several facets of the project including environmental stewardship, Indigenous partnership, safety, and community investment.

How do you build the world’s first net-zero LNG facility? Electrification, high-quality offsets, and continuous improvement.

Mill Creek, which runs through the centre of our site, is a salmon-bearing stream currently home to spawning pink salmon. Having a spawning ground on our site is both a privilege and a responsibility, underscoring the need to ensure construction activities are carefully managed to protect the fish and the habitat they depend on.

Woodfibre LNG’s reclamation work is helping restore Howe Sound, removing legacy pollution and creating new marine habitats to support the region’s environmental recovery.

Woodfibre LNG will be fully electric from day one. As international markets place increasing value on energy that aligns with climate goals, access to clean hydroelectric power isn’t just an environmental asset—it’s a competitive edge.

Kathleen Robertson, a Marine Mammal Observer at Woodfibre LNG and member of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation, is combining her passion for marine conservation with Indigenous knowledge and technical expertise to protect marine wildlife during in-water construction. Her journey from water quality monitoring to acoustic tracking reflects her commitment to learning, growth, and environmental stewardship.

Woodfibre LNG is set to become the world’s first net-zero LNG export facility. While construction on-site began in September 2023, the Project has adopted a modular construction approach to enhance efficiency and meet its construction timeline. As part of this strategy, the fabrication of key LNG modules is currently underway overseas, where 19 specialized modules are being constructed.

By demonstrating that LNG production can achieve near-zero emissions, Woodfibre LNG is highlighting that targeted decarbonization at every stage of the supply chain can have a cascading global impact.
