The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tonnes per year of LNG.

Woodfibre LNG Limited is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

WLNG is seeking a Civil/Structural Superintendent to support ongoing works associated with the site preparation works for the new WLNG facility. The role will cover the early work phases – landfill capping, electrical, civil work, utility upgrades for water supplies, and demolition of existing structures at the WLNG site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety compliance with WLNG’s Occupational Health and Safety programs. Promote an authentic HSE culture, lead by example, and actively participate in all aspects of developing safe work plans, JHA, reporting, and the development of corrective actions as required.
  • Ensure compliance with WLNG’s Environmental Management Plans and meet the permit requirements set by stakeholders, environmental agencies, and the Squamish district.
  • Ensure all work performed is permitted under WLNG/Contractor Permit to Work.
  • Ensure contractors meet or exceed WLNG contractual, regulatory requirements for execution and performance of work.
  • Monitor, audit, and guide contractors in executing their responsibilities to ensure safety, environment, schedule are within WLNG requirements.
  • Participate in regular meetings to review contractor status, schedule performance, HSE, Environmental issues.
  • Participate in ITP hold points and ensure that all required specifications as approved IFC drawings meet WLNG requirements.
  • Participate and be part of the Emergency Response/ Incident Command System.
  • Participate in regular emergency exercises, safety observation programs.
  • Work within the PMT construction team, promoting professionalism and team spirit.
  • Work closely with PMT Engineering to resolve issues and offer alternative solutions to progress the work. Review all as-built drawings that are acceptable to the actual site conditions.
  • Support site emergency response and incident management.
  • Provide daily reports and records as required for monitoring and auditing compliance.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree – in Civil Engineering or accumulated years of extensive civil, structural work
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to attend all required training courses and certifications related to ongoing work.
  • Must be willing to comply with LNG Canada’s drug-free and harassment-free work environment. 
  • Willingness to comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Specific training will be provided by WLNG as required in areas such as Confined space, Work at Height, First Aid, Incident Command, etc.

Additional Requirements

  • Good team and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate ongoing site construction activities in accordance with an approved execution plan, specifications, and approved field change notices.
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC approved plans and do periodic audits to ensure compliance.
  • Responds to emergencies at the site in the event of an incident affecting site operations/security as required.
  • Must be flexible to work split shifts, overtime, and weekends as required to support maintenance and construction schedules.
  • Performs other general duties and requirements to support site staff.
  • Squamish Area residents or locally within 30 minutes drive is preferred.
  • Must be comfortable with Marine type environment as the site is remote and travel daily is by boat only.
