Operations Training Simulator (OTS) Trainer

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves constructing and operating a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and produce approximately 2.1 million tonnes per year of LNG.

Position
The Operations Training Simulator Trainer is responsible for delivery of standard processes and procedures for training and competence assurance activities to ensure safe and successful incident free start-up of the LNG plant, as well as to contribute to the long-term reliability and integrity of the LNG facility through a competent work force.
The position will provide on the Job Training, Mentoring and Coaching including execution of all required instructor led classroom training delivery.
The Operations Training Simulator Trainer will take an active role in ensuring the quality of training and assessments conforms to the WLNG approved Competency Assurance Management System and assist in the design/development of appropriate systems and structures to best accommodate training, development, and competency assurance programs.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
- Responsible for the execution of the Operations Training Simulator training, development, and competency assurance for WLNG’s Technicians in preparation of the LNG Facility Operations Readiness and Assurance Plan.
- Responsible for guiding the Operations Training Simulator build project, factory and user acceptance testing, configuration, and development of Operations Training Simulator training manuals.
- Responsible for developing Operations Training Simulator training plans to ensure that Woodfibre Operations has competent DCS panel operations technicians.
- Develop LNG facility training scenarios to be configured in the training simulator, including emergency response scenarios.
- Undertake regular training sessions at the Training Simulator for DCS panel operations technician candidates, to help them learn complex scenarios, verify, and record their competence.
- Undertake classroom training for operations personnel when needed.
- Work with process engineers to learn from LNG plant trips and other operational incidents, and test out potential improvements on the simulator to support potential DCS logic changes.
- Manage the Operations Training Simulator technical support contract, interface with the support contractor for troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
- Work with the Information Technology department to ensure the simulator continues to operate robustly on Woodfibre’s IT systems.
HSSE
- 100% compliance with company HSE policies and guidelines.
- HSSE member of the LNG Operations Team.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to influence overall safety behavior in the plant.
- Knowledgeable in LNG facility or similar Oil & Gas Facilities regarding Safe Work Practice’s compliance and performance. (PTW, Confined Space, Hot Works, and others.)
Required Experience
- Canadian Power Engineering or international equivalent qualification
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Operations in Oil & Gas production facilities, including DCS panel. LNG DCS Operating experience mandatory.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Operations as a previous Operations Training Simulator trainer.
- Previous experience in providing training, coaching, and conducting assessments for Operations personnel.
- Experience in doing Operations Competency Assessments. Formal accreditation is preferred.
- Working knowledge required of IT systems troubleshooting.
- Experience in setting up and maintaining a competency management system.

- The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), and work in the Company’s Vancouver Office as required.
