Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves constructing and operating a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and produce approximately 2.1 million tonnes per year of LNG.

Position

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for managing safe, effective and efficient maintenance execution in your discipline for reliable assets under the WLNG Maintenance Execution Business Process. The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor manages a Maintenance Technician team focusing on day-to-day execution. At the same time, the supervisor will be accountable for short-, medium- and longer-term Maintenance Execution planning, alignment, and prioritization for the discipline. Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

DURING CONSTRUCTION PHASE

  • Represent Maintenance team during construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning with a split dedication supporting construction assurance and Operational Readiness and building their future discipline maintenance team (i.e., recruitment support, training, maintenance strategies review, etc.).  
  • Serve as the liaison/ zipper between Project and the Asset disciplines during construction phase.
  • During start up will be accountable on his/her discipline to ensure a safe and smooth start up.

OPERATION PHASE

  • Performance management and coaching for his / her discipline work team and leads; provides coaching and direction to all reports to aid in achieving personal development targets.
  • Develop detailed Discipline Goals Plan for the year and Individual Development Plans for all technicians in his/her team; provides coaching and direction to all reports to aid in achieving personal development targets.
  • Manage the business to deliver excellent results in his discipline for cost, reliability, and production.
  • Ensure maintenance execution process compliance for the discipline, with focus on CMMS work order preparation, execution, close out and improvement.
  • Ensure clear understanding of direct report accountabilities and direct reports have clear understanding of their role / expectations including assigning work priorities.
  • Develop and implement rotation plans within trade groups to aid in JCP (Job Competencies Profiles) signoff and promote transfer of trade and business information.
  • Coordinate with Training and HR to ensure adequate JCP exists for craft personnel.
  • Facilitate engagement sessions with disciplined technicians to discuss barriers/opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop cross function initiatives by participating in Maintenance Leadership Team
  • Ensure safe/effective work execution by interfacing with work teams to reinforce safe working habits, behaviors, and job site hazard identification. This includes Visible safety leadership; Permit to work audits; Planned inspections, etc.
  • Responsible for own discipline maintenance budget including developing annual budget for assigned discipline of responsibility; weekly and monthly reviews of spent against budget and developing forecast; Month end accruals and developing accurate Latest Estimate (LE)
  • Coordinate with the Operations and Engineering teams to adjust and minimize future costs, maintain budget, manage unexpected production incidents and minimize Maintenance budget impact.
  • Interfaces with other departments to manage incidents and activities including Ensuring a functional call out and off shift coverage system exists to meet business requirements; Human Resources to address issues with personnel, payroll, schedules, admin guidelines, etc.; Manages craft labor hours allocation between business units based on demands and priorities; Adjust Contract workforce requirements within own discipline.
  • Accountable to ensure the right people are in place, possessing the right competencies at the right times to maintain the asset.
  • Accountable for the performance of contractors working in the discipline.
  • Ensure alignment with Operations and other disciplines supervisors about work priorities and resources. 
  • Support commissioning and start up for brown field projects.
  • The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor will be the focal / responsible person to implement the following cross discipline maintenance programs:
    o   Determine tools (of special and day to day use) including the internal workshop set-up and strategy to use external workshops.
    o   Hose management procedure
    o   Flange management.
  • The successful candidate may also be required from time-to-time” act as leave relief for other similar positions. 

Required Experience

  • Engineer, Technologist or Red Seal Journeyperson within the discipline with minimum 10 years maintenance experience in O&G Industry, with preference for LNG Industry.
  • Skills in coordinating multi-craft maintenance or projects.
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System like SAP-MM is a strong requirement while experience in planning and scheduling would be a “plus”.
  • Preferably the candidate will have previous exposure of SAP implementations from scratch for new facilities.  
  • Experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Business Processes and Systems (Maintenance Execution; TA; Shutdowns, etc.)
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical (rotating, static and civil) equipment and systems such as plant pipeline and piping’, buildings structures and supports, foundations and access roads (asphalts, concrete, etc.), Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC).
  • Capable of doing field coordination of mechanical testing techniques, both destructive and non-destructive.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical repair procedures. 
  • “Hands on” working knowledge in most of the following areas relating to Mechanical equipment and good working knowledge in the remaining:
    o   Mechanical and Static equipment in cryogenic application.
    o   Field experience with preparing for and  leading execution of complex mechanical work scopes.
    o   Field experience with leading execution of complex Turn Around work scopes. 
    o   Centrifugal compressors.
    o   Machinery in cryogenic application.
    o   Dry Gas Seals and Mechanical seals.
    o   Machinery overhauls and component repairs procedures.             
    o   Previous exposure to Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations.

  • Proven leadership skills to lead teams and mentor junior staff, influencing, negotiating and decision making; can effectively pull groups together and coordinate action plans to drive resolution.

  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly for interacting with front-line workers.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and change priorities within tight time frames.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Expertise with a variety of computer programs.
  • A valid driver’s licence and passport.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • This role will be a combination of office and site based.
  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with an initial stay period at the Vancouver Office, followed by travel to the Module Fabrication Yards in China and visits to Houston project office as required.
