Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Day Superintendent is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG’s dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role as part of the Operational Readiness Assurance Team, leading up to Commissioning & Start-Up, into the operational phase by leading the setup of the Operations Management System, training system and tools. During the operational phase, the focus shifts to optimizing operations, maintenance coordination, upholding environmental and community standards, implementing procedures, ensuring safety compliance, addressing training requirements, and mentoring team members. Additional contributions include budget planning, resource allocation, and driving continuous improvement for efficient and sustainable LNG production. The successful candidate will be based in Vancouver initially until the Commissioning and Start Up Phase. The position will then transfer to the Project Site, in Squamish, BC.

During the construction phase of the LNG Plant:

  • Lead the development of the Operations Management System, i.e. all procedures to operate the plant safely and reliably aligned with Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Manage the Technical Training Teams to ensure all training requirements and regulatory certifications while maintaining compliancy at all times.
  • Set up the contracts required for running efficient operations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system, ensuring compliance with isolation standards, competencies, and safety protocols.

During the operational phase of the LNG Plant:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient execution of operational tasks, supporting 24-hour LNG production and maintaining plant reliability.
  • Liaise with the Maintenance Coordinator to prioritize and prepare for daily maintenance execution activities to ensure continuity, efficiency, and resource availability across departments.
  • Collaborate with technical services, HSSE, and other departments to address integrity issues, compliance checks, and operational improvements.
  • Contribute to the development of the Operations budget and life cycle OPEX planning.
  • Continuously improve the Operations management system and tools
  • Optimize production, ensuring operations are within the safe operating envelope and aligned with environmental requirements and safety standards.
  • Manage Operations preparation for planned and unplanned shutdowns

Required Experience

  • 4th Class Power Engineering certification is required; 3rd Class is preferred but not mandatory.
  • 10 – 15 years in the Oil and Gas Industry, with LNG experience considered an asset.
  • Proven experience in implementing Operations support systems and Operational Readiness for large oil and gas related facilities.
  • Leadership experience during project phases, including commissioning and start-up.
  • Expertise in leading operational improvement processes and prioritizing tasks to support production.
  • Strong background in Production Planning and achieving operational and production targets.
  • Collaborative experience working across departments to meet production goals.
  • Experience in Emergency Response Planning.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.

  • Motivated and willing to take ownership of tasks.
  • Ability to work well under pressure handling tasks, targets and changing priorities within tight time frames.
  • Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development.
  • Expertise with a variety of computer programs (e.g. MS Office).
  • A valid driver’s license (with abstract) and passport.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with an initial stay period at the Vancouver Office until CSU Phase.
