Investing in the Community

Woodfibre LNG is focused on minimizing impacts and maximizing benefits for the community of Squamish.

We look forward to continuing contributing to the community in the years to come, and to supporting the people and the organizations that make Squamish an incredible place to live and work.

Since 2016, Woodfibre LNG has invested more than $1 million into local non-profits and community organizations through its Community Partnership Program and other sponsorship opportunities.

We regularly partner with the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) to support programs, events and initiatives that are important for community members, particularly youth and elders.

The Project is expected to create up to 850 jobs at peak construction, with hiring preference given to qualified Squamish Nation members, other Indigenous peoples, Squamish residents, British Columbians and Canadians – in that order.

Once operational, Woodfibre LNG will be a significant employer in the region, offering about 100 family-supporting careers in Squamish. The project will also generate tax revenues that can be reinvested into infrastructure and services.

Minimizing our Impact During Construction

Since the beginning of the Project, Woodfibre LNG has been committed to minimizing impacts on the community, and we’re following through on that promise. From traffic reduction initiatives to our on-site, state-of-the-art floating workforce accommodation that includes access to a range of health services, we’re ensuring that existing infrastructure and services in Squamish are not burdened by our facility’s construction.

Woodfibre LNG is required by its Environmental Assessment Certificates from the provincial and federal governments and from the Squamish Nation to develop and implement mitigations identified in various Environment Management Plans.

We’re Listening

Woodfibre LNG began engaging with the community in 2013 and has had thousands of interactions with community members. These have taken place through community events, information sessions, open houses, town halls, municipal government presentations and stakeholder roundtables and meetings. We remain committed to maintaining this this engagement throughout construction of the Project and into operations.
