The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves constructing and operating a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and produce approximately 2.1 million tonnes per year of LNG.

Position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer (Rotating Equipment) is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG’s dynamic team. You will work on the detailed engineering design and execution with a world class EPC contractor. The detailed design is expected to take up to 12 months in Houston, Texas, after which the project team is anticipated to relocate to the site in Squamish for construction, commissioning, and startup. Additional travel during this period or following the completion of detailed engineering will be required to vendor facilities, located globally, and to the fabrication yards, located in Asia. The successful candidate reports directly to Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical and will play an essential part in supporting the company’s engineering and senior management team through the construction phase of the project.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Formulating the engineering design definition with the EPC contractor and oversight of contractor design performance.
  • Inputting practical advice into design and execution planning.
  • Reviewing the design of rotating equipment and optimizing the design for modularization.
  • Reviewing and commenting on EPC engineering deliverables, and vendor documents for machinery and various packaged equipment, with a focus on life cycle value to meet required targets.
  • Ensuring rotating equipment is fit for purpose.
  • Participating in scheduled design reviews and reviewing and commenting on constructability, modularization and participating in execution planning.
  • Working with QA to support testing programs for rotating equipment and various packaged equipment.
  • Reviewing and commenting quantities, costs and prices of the equipment and the works.
  • Validating performance of rotating equipment and various packaged equipment during vendor performance tests (string test, etc.)
  • Ensuring a proper preservation program is developed for rotating equipment and various packaged equipment while it is at the module yard, in transit to site, and at site prior to commissioning.
  • Participating in commissioning & start-up planning and reviewing and commenting on commissioning deliverables.

Required Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of major project experience in design and implementation within capital projects in the Oil & Gas and LNG industries.
  • Experience with rotating equipment in LNG plants, with execution via EPC contractors and with commissioning and operations.
  • Strong technical competence in the specification of machinery/rotating equipment utilized in LNG plant design with expertise in modularized LNG plant equipment.
  • Team player with proven management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop reports and presentations to management.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal/teambuilding skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Communication/interpersonal skills – interacting with front-line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.

  • The position is based in the EPC contractor’s office in the Energy Corridor of West Houston, TX, with travel to Vancouver, BC; to Squamish, BC (project site) and others, as required.
