Hi Michael,
Thanks for your question – it’s really important to know what we’re doing locally so thanks for raising this. We announced our Engineering Procurement Fabrication Construction contract with McDermott International at the end of November 2021. This contract commits McDermott to Woodfibre LNG’s hiring priority for qualified Squamish Nation members and local workers first, followed by British Columbians and then Canadians. Unfortunately, Canada does not currently have the facilities to make all of the components we’ll need. In particular, large complex LNG modules cannot currently be manufactured in Canada. Although those complex modules can only be built overseas, we plan to procure many other steelmaking products domestically. In fact, we expect approximately 15,000 tonnes of steel to be required for the stick build of our facility. The joint priority is to create a safe, inclusive and respectful workplace that brings benefits to the project’s Indigenous partners and community. Our business directory application is here and we regularly check this. https://woodfibrelng.ca/careers/business-directory/
